All work that I carry out is subject to the below standard terms and conditions, unless otherwise agreed.
Samples of work will be requested prior to giving a quote, to make sure the service quoted for is what you are looking for. Please note that the quote is for whole job, not per word. If the number of words changes significantly from when the quote is given to when actual document is sent, the quote may be altered by agreement. If not otherwise discussed, the original fee till applies.
Quotes received are valid for three months.
Payment is via PayPal to firstname.lastname@example.org, due within one week of the job being completed. For larger jobs, I may request a deposit in advance. International clients are liable for conversion fees unless otherwise discussed.
Clients will receive an estimated timescale along with the quote. This timescale depends on the work being sent on the agreed date, and is otherwise subject to change. I will confirm the date and time in UK local time that the document will be returned when it is sent by the client. If the document is sent by the client later than planned, a revised timescale may be given.
All work is guaranteed confidential and will only be read by Lizzie Cass-Maran or associate proofreaders. All copyright and intellectual property remains with the author of the piece.
Documents will be returned with a proofreading/editing report showing due diligence. Final liability for the document rests with the author, and whilst the utmost care will be taken to identify errors, it is conceivable that on occasion errors will be missed due to human error. I am not liable for any losses, financial or otherwise, resulting from missed errors.
Standard proofreading or editing service is to highlight errors in copy. Although the functionality of digital proofreading means that these errors are often corrected by the proofreader, it is not my responsibility to action changes.
Plagiarism (academic proofreading)
If you are a student, having your work proofread, or edited for larger structural and linguistic concerns does not constitute plagiarism.
For international students, work will only be proofread or edited with a statement in writing from the student that they are not being assessed on their English language abilities.
If you have requested a quote for proofreading only, this covers basic errors in spelling, grammar, formatting and syntax. Light-touch editorial advice may be given at times. However, if your document needs more comprehensive editing, this will be subject to a new quote. Otherwise, I will proofread the document as it stands.
I reserve the right to return any piece of work after receiving if I have any concerns about the work. These concerns may include, but are not limited to:
- The standard of writing is such that it requires more work than I have agreed to include in the quote
- The nature of the business, or of the job I have been asked to do, raises ethical concerns
- I am concerned about plagiarism
